What You’ll Learn

1: Sensory Processing Disorder in a nutshell

Many therapists focus primarily on one aspect to address sensory processing difficulties. SPD is a complex (and interesting!) topic with many facets. Understanding the different perspectives, assessments, goal settings, and practical strategies will enhance therapy with positive outcomes for your clients and fewer frustrations for you. You will learn how motor disorders, sensory modulation and sensory discrimination impact your client’s functional life. Practical assessments and strategies will be discussed to improve your clinical reasoning and goals for intervention.

2: Sensory Modulation

Typically seen as a sensory processing disorder, sensory modulation is one aspect of SPD.  However, it is essential to understand how to address the eight senses by identifying your client’s issues, setting intervention goals, and finding intervention strategies.  You will learn about the Reticular Activating System, the Threshold Theory, and the role of neurotransmitters.  Ideas for creating a sensory lifestyle (also called a sensory diet) and how to implement it successfully.

3: Dyspraxia and DCD – is there a difference?

Dyspraxia means “unable to plan”.  Marga has researched and studied this concept over many years to create positive outcomes in therapy sessions.  Understand the difference between Dyspraxia,  Developmental Coordination Disorder, and Postural Disorders.  These conditions might present similar functional issues; however, the differences will change the therapy intervention.  What is the relationship between Dyspraxia and Cognitive Processes such as Executive Functioning and Problem-Solving?  Learn how to address these issues by listening to practical tips that work for therapists and families.

Members Feedback

Marga’s Master Classes met my expectations and gave me a deep
understanding of SPD. These classes are highly recommended.

I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to work with Marga. A long time ago our doctor told us (after the diagnoses of ASD was made) that we have to find the right therapist who will be able to bring out the best in Aaron. He told us to change over and over until we found the right one; I believe my prayers were answered when we found you, Marga. We will never forget you, I know Aaron won’t.

Marga presents extensive courses on the links between SPD and other conditions to professionals through Dilgem Academy, Turkey. After the first one, she was commissioned to repeat the course and to develop another for professionals.

The content of these Masterclasses made me curious to find answers to questions from my specific field of OT practice outside of Peads. Marga is professional with extensive depth and experience in this area of therapy.

Dottie

Marga regularly presents on international platforms: ADHD – What Now? (one of 21 international speakers), My Spirited Child (conference in Adelaide, 2022), and The Parent Journey (one of 14 international presenters)

Stories of Hope is an e-book authored by Marga. She shares true stories of kids making progress in therapy.

I only wish there had been more time to spend on practical therapeutic applications and examples – but focussing on the theory for me as a precursor to the practical application was vital – excellent course – thank you so much for giving so much clarity to a potentially very cloudy topic

Enjoyed the small groups and presentation. I like listening to other people’s experiences with case studies to see how they have interpreted the child’s sensory needs. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I feel I have lots information, visuals, resources and quotes to take away from this PD
